This SevenFriday P1-1 was reviewed on 10 different criteria. The review is for this specific watch, other models may perform differently. Evaluation is based on my wrist size, personal opinions, experiences, and preferences.
Overall Design | 13 out of 15
One of my favorite things about the SevenFriday brand is their unique designs. They have both an industrial and modern look that is quite appealing and different, but it is definitely not for everyone. The SevenFriday watches are also incredibly photogenic, hence their ever increasing popularity on Instagram. Just by looking at them one would think that the watches go for over $5K, but in reality their retail prices range from $1200 to $1600. Do wish there was a date display somewhere.
Case | 7 out of 10
The stainless steel case measures 47 x 46.7mm with the lugs actually built into the case. Most of the case has a beautiful vertical brushed finish with a few parts being polished and satin finished. Quality and finish on the case is excellent. The case back has quite a book engraved on the back... sometimes less is more.
Dial | 7 out of 10
This is where the design of the P1-1 shines from an aesthetic point of view. The dial is comprised of several discs and hands that give the dial a multidimensional feel. There is also an opening at 7 o' clock that partially shows the balance wheel. However, the dial also suffers from a mild text clutter and it is difficult to tell time what time it is.
Strap | 7 out of 10
The watch comes with a standard black leather strap on a satin finished and polished tang buckle. The tang buckle has the brand name engraved on the backside... personally I would have liked it more on the front side, where I can see it ;-). Strap fits my 6.5" wrist without any issues. It is soft and comfortable to wear.
Movement | 4 out of 10
Inside you will find an automatic Japanese Miyota 82S7. Nothing against this great workhorse, but at this price point, I certainly expected at least a basic Swiss movement.
Legibility | 3 out of 5
The multilayer dial is quite interesting to look at, but it also makes telling time difficult. Additionally, there is no lume on the dial, so telling time without a light source would be impossible.
Operation | 5 out of 5
The crown operated flawlessly when adjusting the time. Crown was easy to grasp and pull.
Features | 5 out of 10
Points were deducted for the lack of date, water resistance (which is rated at 3 ATM or 30 meters), and use of a hardened mineral crystal with AR coating. The P1-1 displays the hour, minute, second, and 24H. The use of rotating discs to tell time and the subtle opening on the dial are a nice touch.
Comfort | 9 out of 10
The lack of lugs combined with the soft leather strap makes the watch quite comfortable despite its big size. A bit top heavy.
Value | 8 out of 15
Here is my biggest issue with SevenFriday. Although they are attractively designed and well-made watches, their current retail prices are just a bit too high for me. At their price range, I would like to see a Swiss movement and a sapphire crystal on the watch. You are essentially paying for its unique design.
TOTAL SCORE: 68 out of 100
A unique looking watch that is unfortunately short on features and a bit high in price.
