For many years I have wanted a black Panerai in my collection, but somehow every time a new Panerai joined the family it was always in stainless steel. In my defense, the options with a black ceramic case are limited (as much as I love the look of PVD, I am too scared of scratches to own one). I admired the Radiomir PAM 292 for many years, but never took the plunge. Then I drooled over the PAM 317 but could not get over the high price point… but after 12 years of watch collecting, I finally added a black ceramic PAM to my collection – the PAM 1441.
Unlike the more commonly known PAM 441, this updated version has a few differences.
Seconds hand now comes in the signature Panerai blue color, which is now found in many Luminor models (adds a nice contrast)
Closed case back (which is a huge shame)
Updated dial. “Luminor” was moved to the bottom and “Ceramica” was replaced with “Automatic” (the new dial looks cleaner, but I think I favor the old busier dial just a bit)
I welcome the PAM 1441 to my Panerai family – which consists of the 183, 233, 305, 416, 563, 911, and 968. Without a doubt and despite the ups and downs in our relationship, Panerai remains one of my favorite brands.
